In
September and October 2000, the Museum of Japanese emigration to Hawaii signed
a sister-museum-cooperation with five museums in U.S.A. to exhibit materials related
to Japanese emigration. The museums signing sister-museum-cooperation are (from
East to West); Chinese American National Museum (Los Angeles, CA), Alexander &
Baldwin Sugar Museum (Maui, HI), Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii (Oahu, HI),
Hawaiian Plantation Village (Oahu, HI), Kauai Museum (Kauai, HI). All of these
museums have the common mission of showing the history and culture of Japanese
emigration, and to preserve the related materials and records. Our aim is to develop
a cooperative relationship and facilitate cultural exchange among these museums,
so that our respective activities will be enriched and contribute to promoting
friendship between our two nations.
In a joint statement in August 2000, We confirmed that the Nihoshima-Mura Museum
in Hiroshima shares our common objective for the museums to act as "Hometown in
the mind of Japanese-Americans."
The brief information for the sister museums and the like is shown below. Please
note that the open/close time and days of the museum are subject to change - see
