Title:Visitors to Yamaguchi Kanyaku-Imin Hakubutsukan From:Hilo-sanseiDate:2010/06/01
I visited this museum in late 2006. I am a sansei interested in learning more about my grandparents who came to Hawaii from this area, although they were unusual in not working for any plantation. My grandfather 1st entered Hawaii in 1894, but set up a watch repair shop and Japanese Plantation Store. I tried to get information at the museum, but there was none. I tried a government office in Hagi, but was told they could not release any information due to a privacy law passed just 2 years prior. I will be glad to share what I learned in my search. I am going to the area in a few months with new documents. Write me for more info.

Title:Bunichi Inoshita From:ElinorDate:2009/09/12
My grandfather, Bunichi Inoshita, emigrated to Kauai. Do I need to know the Japanese characters of his name to search for information about him at your museum or is your search program also in English?
Thank you,
Elinor

I was born in Honolulu Hawaii. I believe my greatgrandparents came from Yamaguchi. I would like to visit the Museum of Japanese Emigration to Hawaii. I am having trouble finding directions to your museum. I was wondering if I could get directions from Izumo-shi

I am thinking to visiting you museum the week of November 3 (perhaps on No. 5), to begin learning about the experience of Meiji jidai emigrants to Hawaii. What are your hours, and what is the best way to get there from Tokyo? Thanks so much.

Title:Planned visit From:Ken SaikiDate:2007/09/04
Our group of 24 Hiroshima descendants--ages 8 to 88--on a sato-gaeri trip from Hawaii to Akitakata-
shi, plan to make a side-trip to your museum on Saturday, Oct. 27. We appreciate the hardships our
ancestors must have endured, and eagerly look forward to learning more about them. Thank you for
maintaining the museum to honor their legacy. Mahalo & Aloha.

Title:Visit to Oshima-gun Sept. 2006 From:gsekimuraDate:2006/08/28
My father, my son, and I will be visiting your area on September 13-15, 2006. My grandfather and grandmother emigrated from your area to Hilo, Hawaii around 1900. I believe my grandfather (Sekimura, Kokichi) was from Ohbatake, and my grandmother (Kaneyoshi, Machiyo) was from the Oshima area.

We want to find out more information about Sekimura, Kokichi and his family before he emigrated to Hawaii. Who can we contact to find out about such information?

Title:Ushijima or Ushima From:JulieDate:2006/08/17
